PUBLIC NOTICE REGARDING COVID-19 - Updated: March 10, 2021

Out of an abundance of caution, the Mason Courthouse remains CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC until further notice. During this time, the Register of Deeds Office continues to record documents and provide phone assistance during the normal office hours.

 To protect the Register of Deeds employees, documents will not be accepted or provided at the door of the Courthouse. Employees are available to assist with any questions regarding the recording documents and obtaining copies of recorded documents Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. We will continue to accept and record documents submitted through one of our e-recording vendors, as well as by mail, UPS or FedEx.

Please call our office at (517) 676-7216 if you need assistance in determining recording fees and transfer tax.

The decision to close the Courthouse to the public was not one that was made lightly. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. The health and safety of our staff members and the community continues to be our top priority.

The first Constitution of the State of Michigan was adopted by the United States Congress in 1835 establishing the Register of Deeds as the official recording office for all legal documents and instruments pertaining to the transfer and encumbrance of real property (land) located within each county. The duties and responsibilities of the Register of Deeds Office are established by state law to include recording, indexing and retaining documents that convey or encumber real estate located within the County.

Derrick Quinney is the current Ingham County Register of Deeds and is the 32nd person to hold the office.

The Register of Deeds Office does not prepare or change documents and cannot provide any legal assistance. We recommend that all documents be carefully reviewed to assure compliance with the recording requirements before being submitted for recording.
